If you travelled within the past 3 days you can call Roam Express on 13 ROAM (13 7626) to apply for an e-TAG Account or a Visitor's e-PASS. Otherwise the registered owner of the vehicle will receive a toll notice. This includes the toll, plus an administration fee. The administration fee is $10.00 each toll notice if you don't have an electronic tag account, or $ 1.10 each toll notice if you elect to transfer the toll to an electronic tag account.
- Where are the toll points?
The toll booths are located before the exit to Macquarie Street, the Harbour crossings (see diagram) and before the exit to William Street (see diagram). There is also a fully electronic toll point at the Northbound William Street exit which connects to the Cross City Tunnel. You need to organise to pay this toll via an electronic tag or a Visitor's e-PASS.
- What are the advantages to using the Eastern Distributor?
The Eastern Distributor, which bypasses up to 19 sets of traffic lights, enables you to more reliably predict how long your journey will take. It is quick, simple and fuel efficient for trips such as the run between the city and the airport.
- How is the tunnel configured?
The 1.7 kilometre tunnel running under Darlinghurst, East Sydney and Surry Hills extends from near Cathedral Street, Woolloomooloo to Driver's Triangle, at Moore Park beneath Fitzroy Street. It has connections to South Dowling Street, Anzac Parade and Moore Park Road. The tunnel is a "double deck" configuration with the southbound lanes below the northbound lanes.
- What do I do if I break down or am involved in an accident in the tunnel?
Stay in your car. The Motorway Control Centre has cameras that monitor the length of the road. A tow truck or service vehicle will quickly come to your assistance.
- Where are the emergency phones?
They are in the breakdown bays and every 60 metres in the tunnel. They allow you to communicate directly with the Motorway Controller in the control room.
- Where do I go if there is a major incident in the tunnel?
Follow the instructions provided over your radio and the public address system. You may be directed to exit the tunnel through one of the emergency exits located every 120 metres.
- Where do the emergency exits go to?
Usually these will lead you to the other tunnel, which is directly above or below the tunnel you are in.
- How do I get an electronic tolling account?

- Do I need a receipt for tax purposes?
No. GST legislation only requires a receipt for supplies costing more than $55. For tax purposes a diary or log entry of the toll paid is sufficient and no receipt is needed.
- What if my employer requires a receipt?
If your employer requires a receipt it's best to have an electronic tag account which will include a regular statement itemising your travel. Alternatively, supply your diary or log entry of trips to your accountant.
- Where do I pay my Delayed Toll Voucher?
At the Eastern Distributor Control Centre located at 43 Bourke Street, Woolloomooloo or by mailing a cheque.

- What is a 'no tag fee'?
If you have an electronic tag account and travel on the Eastern Distributor without a tag, or without the tag being correctly installed, your account will be charged a 'no tag fee' of $0.55 per trip. The 'no tag fee' covers the cost of manually matching your vehicle with your account rather than the tag being automatically detected. This fee does not apply for a Visitor's e-PASS.
